The house

The house

A neighbourhood kitchen, with the stoves in plain sight and the same cook for twenty years.

How this works

Hands plating a dish at a stainless steel kitchen pass.

We opened in 1998 in what used to be a dairy shop. It started with six tables and a set menu priced in pesetas, and half the recipes are still the same ones.

We buy in the morning and we cook in the morning. That is why the set menu changes every day: it is not a marketing decision, it is that we cook what there is. When a dish runs out, it has run out.

The cocido is made on Wednesdays because it is started on Monday. The roasts are to order for the same reason.

The details deliberately left blank

A real eatery publishes a handful of numbers on its website that are issued by a public body, not by the business. This demo does not invent them: it leaves them empty, so you can see exactly where yours would go.

Registered name and tax ID
To be provided and verified. What identifies the company behind the premises in the legal notice and on invoices.
Food business registration
To be provided and verified. The entry in Spain's general food business register that matches the activity.
Operating licence
To be provided and verified. The one granted by the city council for hospitality use and, where there is one, for the terrace.
Public liability insurance
To be provided and verified. Insurer and current policy number.

None of these fields is simulated in this demo: they are numbers issued by a public body, and publishing invented ones would mean faking what cannot be proven.

What this page is

Casa Melguizo does not exist

It is an invented eatery. This website was built by Fernando Gómez de la Mata, a web designer and developer, to show how a neighbourhood hospitality business's site turns out: the daily menu, the à la carte menu, the bookings and the dashboard the owner changes it all from.

If you were looking for somewhere to eat

Better to say so straight away: there is no food here. No premises, no kitchen and no tables. And writing to this WhatsApp books no table, not here and not anywhere else: at the other end there is no restaurant, there is a web designer. Search Google for the restaurant you had in mind and call its own number.

If you run a bar, an eatery or a restaurant

Then this page is for you, and it is exactly what I can build. Everything you have seen —the set menu changed from a phone, the à la carte menu with no PDF and no QR code, bookings without commission and the house dashboard— works the same way with your name on it. Write to me and I'll tell you what yours would cost and how soon you'd have it.

Message on WhatsApp

WhatsApp opens with the message already written. You decide whether to send it.

The only channel on this demo: WhatsApp 619 20 24 51, Fernando Gómez de la Mata. Casa Melguizo has no phone and no email because Casa Melguizo does not exist.

Book a table

On your restaurant's website, this button dials

Here it does not. The number you can see —400 12 34 56— sits in a range Spain's national numbering plan leaves unassigned: it belongs to nobody and rings nowhere. On your own site, this button opens the customer's phone with your number already in it.

In a neighbourhood eatery a good share of bookings still come in by phone, even when there is a form. That is why the button sits in the header and stays fixed on mobile.
